Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

1. Preface

Have you ever imagined that our survival hinges on a tiny piece of metal weighing just three grams? That is the amount of iron in the body of an adult human. Though it weighs no more than a small coin, without it our lives would end.Scientifically, iron is the core of hemoglobin, whose job is to bind oxygen from the lungs and circulate it to every cell in the body. Iron is also what gives our blood its bright red color. On the other hand, the Earth’s crust contains about 150 trillion tons of iron ore. Allah did not only place iron in the heart of mountains to build civilizations, but also placed it in our hearts so we can keep breathing. This is a form of God’s extremely precise care: iron that is abundant out there, and iron that is utterly vital in here.

2. Explanation

This miracle of iron has been immortalized in the Qur’an with a message of strength and benefit:

وَأَنْزَلْنَا الْحَدِيدَ فِيهِ بَأْسٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ

“And We sent down iron, wherein is great might and many benefits for mankind...” (QS. Al-Hadid: 25)

Regarding the importance of maintaining health and the blessing of the body, the Messenger of Allah SAW said:

مَنْ أَصْبَحَ مِنْكُمْ آمِنًا فِي سِرْبِهِ مُعَافًى فِي جَسَدِهِ عِنْدَهُ قُوتُ يَوْمِهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا حِيزَتْ لَهُ الدُّنْيَا

“Whoever among you wakes up secure in his home, healthy in his body, and having food for the day, it is as if the whole world has been granted to him.” (HR. Tirmidhi)

3. Lessons and Message

The fact about three grams of iron teaches us about Humility and Dependence. How weak humans are; although we feel great, own tall buildings, and abundant wealth, our physical life depends only on three grams of iron. If Allah were to take even a little of that balance, all worldly glory could not save us. Thus, there is no place for arrogance in the heart of a servant whose every heartbeat depends on the provision of his Lord.In 1910, scientists at a conference were once gripped by extraordinary anxiety. They feared that the earth’s iron reserves would run out by 1970, meaning civilization would collapse. But that worry vanished when it was discovered that iron is abundantly present—up to 5% of the earth’s crust by weight. This incident reminds us of one thing: humans often worry about tomorrow because of limited knowledge, while Allah, the Provider, has guaranteed His servants’ sufficiency in abundant measure. Allah will not let us lack what we need to survive.Iron in the blood is like a “Small Anchor in a Big Ship.” A magnificent ship with powerful engines cannot be stable without an anchor. Likewise with our body; even with a brilliant brain and strong muscles, without this “iron anchor” (hemoglobin), our cells would not receive oxygen and would suffocate. Something small in human eyes is often the main key holder in the Creator’s eyes.We often hear of people wanting to look stylish by wearing expensive gold or silver jewelry to appear “classy.” Yet the most expensive and most beneficial jewelry is actually inside our own blood vessels—iron! Without gold we still live, but without three grams of iron, we’re done for. So don’t feel inferior if you don’t have a gold bracelet yet; just be grateful for the “iron bracelet” busy transporting oxygen in your blood. That’s an exclusive piece of jewelry straight from Heaven!

4. Conclusion

Iron is not just about swords, machines, or building construction. Iron is about the pulse of life flowing through our veins. Knowledge of the iron that is abundant in the earth and vital in our blood should make us even more aware that we are never left alone by Him.Let us use the energy produced by the iron in our blood to step toward obedience. Glory be to Allah, who created everything in perfect measure.
