1. Preface

All praise is due to Allah SWT, Al-Wahhab, the Supreme Giver who equips every one of His creatures with the best provisions for survival. Let us look at one of the most iconic biological wonders of a camel: its hump.Biologically, the camel has a highly efficient digestive system with four stomach chambers. Yet the true marvel lies in its hump. Scientifically, a camel’s hump is not a water store as commonly assumed, but a concentrated reserve of fat that can weigh tens of kilograms. When food is scarce in the desert, the camel’s body converts this fat into energy and water through internal chemical processes. This is the “energy tank” that enables a camel to survive up to a month without eating. The precision of this design is a reminder of the greatness of the Creator:

A. Qur’anic Verse (On Reflecting Upon Creation)

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

“Then do they not look at the camel—how it was created?” (QS. Al-Ghashiyah: 17)B. The Saying of the Messenger of Allah SAW (On the Strength of a Believer)

الْمُؤْمِنُ الْقَوِيُّ خَيْرٌ وَأَحَبُّ إِلَى اللهِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِ الضَّعِيفِ

“A strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than a weak believer.” (HR. Muslim)

2. Explanation

My brothers and sisters whom Allah has blessed,

The greatest lesson from the camel’s hump is about Preparedness. The camel does not wait until it is hungry to seek fat; it accumulates it when food is abundant as a reserve. Likewise with us in religion; our times of leisure and health are the moments to “fill the hump of the soul” with righteous deeds and knowledge. If our “hump of faith” is full, then when the storm of trials or a “drought” of provision strikes, we will not stagger because we possess a reserve of tranquility within. The analogy is this: The camel’s hump is like a high-capacity “Power Bank.” When electricity is available, we may feel we do not need it. But when we are in the darkness of the wilderness without an outlet, that battery is what saves our communication. Do not let the “battery of your soul” be empty while you are at ease, so that it is ready to “power up” hope when the world around you is dark. There is a moving incident in Islamic history. Khalid bin Walid RA, when leading the army to the Battle of Yarmouk, crossed a deadly desert. He utilized camels that had drunk their fill as “walking water tanks” to guarantee the lives of thousands of fighters. The camel willingly bore heavy loads and gave its reserve of life for the sake of this religion’s establishment. How funny we humans are—we often panic excessively if the internet connection dies for just an hour, as if the world has ended. We want great resilience, but when told to save up provisions for the Hereafter, we feel like the most miserable people. We should be ashamed before the camel; it carries a huge reserve on its back silently without showing off, while we, having just a small reserve of rice, are already busy posting status updates everywhere!

3. Lessons and Message

From the philosophy of the camel’s hump, let us draw its wisdom:The Importance of Preparation: Use your time of health before illness and your time of leisure before busyness to save up good deeds. That is our energy reserve when facing difficult times. Inner Strength: The true strength of a believer does not lie in what is visible on the outside, but in the reserve of faith stored within. Endurance for the Long Journey: Life is a long journey. Without the “fat reserve” of patience and gratitude, we will easily give up in the middle of life’s desert.

4. Conclusion

Beloved brothers and sisters, observe the camel’s stomach and hump. Allah did not place the camel in a fierce desert without giving it sufficient provisions on its back.Be certain that Allah will not give you a life trial unless He has deposited within you the potential and strength to get through it. Let us continue to “fill our humps” with obedience, taqwa, and good expectations of Allah, so that we are able to undertake the long journey toward His pleasure with full resilience. May we all be strengthened to reach the finish line in a state of husnul khatimah
