1. Preface

Epistemologically, human knowledge is partial and temporal—severely limited by space and time. Scientifically, the human brain is also influenced by cognitive bias and self-interest bias. This is why man-made laws are dynamic; what is deemed right today can be repealed tomorrow once proven flawed.Yet when we speak of Law that is “Revealed,” we speak of a perspective from “Above”—from the Creator who is All-Knowing without limit. Following God’s law is not a constraint, but the use of the most accurate “Manual Book” for our soul. By relying on a system that will never deceive or take sides, the stress hormones within us decrease because the soul feels secure under the shelter of absolute justice.Qur’anic and Hadith Evidence:

A. On the Perfection of Revelation

“[This is] a Book revealed to you, so let there be no uneasiness in your heart concerning it—so that you may warn thereby, and as a reminder for the believers.” (QS. Al-A‘raf: 2)

B. On Allah’s Straight Path

تَرَكْتُ فِيكُمْ أَمْرَيْنِ لَن تَضِلُّوا مَا تَمَسَّكْتُم بِهِمَا: كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِ

“I have left among you two matters; you will never go astray as long as you hold firmly to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet.” (HR. Malik)

2. Explanation

God’s Law is like a “Lighthouse” in the middle of a dark ocean. Ships—humans—may try to make their own lights on deck, but those lights can only illuminate a few meters and are easily extinguished by storms. Without a lighthouse standing firm on the rock—revelation from above—the ships will collide with one another or be shattered against the reefs. The lighthouse does not follow the ship’s course; rather, the ship must follow the lighthouse’s beam to reach the harbor safely. We, too, are often caught in the humor of our own behavior. We sometimes protest and deem God’s rules “too rigid,” yet at the same time we strictly obey human-made traffic rules that are often confusing. We fear a police ticket more than we fear being “ticketed” by angels. We take pride in following worldly legal trends that keep getting revised, even though it’s like wearing a shirt that’s too small and having to keep tailoring it over and over. Is it not far more comforting to wear the “garment” from the Tailor of the Universe, whose sizing fits every human soul until the end of time?

3. Lessons and Message

There are several profound moral messages we can draw from applying God’s law in life:Universal Justice: Only Allah’s law is universal—fair to the rich and the poor, the ruler and the common people, regardless of class or culture. True Freedom: Real freedom is when we are no longer slaves to man-made rules that shift with interests, but servants of the Creator who is Most Just. Human Dignity: God’s law was revealed not to strip away pleasure, but to safeguard human dignity. History proves how the light of revelation elevated the status of women, protected orphans, and abolished oppressive caste systems. Certainty in Life: Using the Qur’an as a compass provides clear direction amid the world’s uncertainty, so doubt no longer clouds the heart.

4. Conclusion

My beloved brothers and sisters, be grateful that we have the Qur’an as an eternal compass. Humans may be very clever at inventing technology, yet humans often fail at governing their own souls without the guidance of revelation.Do not let doubt slip into your heart when carrying out His commands. Let us return to the straight path—the path designed by the Creator of the heavens and the earth for peace in this world and salvation in the Hereafter. May Allah SWT always guide our every step so that we remain firm upon His shariah. Amin Ya Rabbal Alamin
