1. Introduction

Friends whom Allah has blessed, when we speak of “Islamic Civilization,” our minds often drift to the past—to the beauty of Córdoba’s architecture or the magnificent library of Bayt al-Ḥikmah in Baghdad. Yet great civilizations are not born from empty dreams; they arise from the transformation of souls and intellects grounded in divine revelation. From a scientific and sociological perspective, a civilization advances when its people have a strong work ethic, robust literacy, and a producer mindset rather than merely a consumer one. Islam calls us to be agents of that change.

Allah ﷻ says :

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِم

“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” (QS. Ar-Ra‘d : 11)

Civilizational change begins with mindset and real contribution, however small.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also reminded us that the best of people are those most beneficial to their surroundings

خَيْرُ النَّاسِ أَنْفَعُهُمْ لِلنَّاس

“The best of people are those most beneficial to people.” (HR. Aḥmad and Aṭ-Ṭabarānī)

2. Lessons and Message

The advancement or decline of Islamic civilization today is not determined by the glory of the past, but by what we type with our fingers, what we learn in the classroom, and how honestly we conduct business in the marketplace. Integrity is the foundation of civilization.

Do you remember the story of Caliph ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azīz? During his brief reign of only about two to three years, Islamic civilization reached a peak of social justice. One day, zakat officers traveled through North Africa with abundant zakat wealth, yet they wept because they struggled to find a single poor person eligible to receive it. Everyone had become self-sufficient. That is the beauty of a civilization built upon justice and taqwā.

Imagine a large sailing ship. Islamic civilization is that ship, and we are its passengers. If a group of passengers below deliberately drills holes in the hull, saying “I just want to get water directly from the sea without bothering those above,” and the passengers above remain indifferent, the entire ship will sink. Advancing civilization requires shared concern; we cannot be apathetic toward the ignorance and backwardness around us.

Sometimes we’re funny. We get fired up marching or making content demanding “The Glory of Islam,” but we still oversleep for Fajr. We criticize Western technology, yet our online games still rank number one regionally. We want to advance civilization, but our only capital is lying around scrolling social media until morning? Civilization is built with sweat and work, friends—not just with hashtags on social media!

3. Conclusion and Closing

Advancing Islamic civilization is not the task of one or two great figures alone. Civilization is the accumulation of personal righteousness transforming into social righteousness. When you study diligently, work honestly, maintain cleanliness, and spread benefit, you are laying bricks to rebuild the tower of Islamic civilization.

Dear brothers and sisters , let us stop lamenting decline and start lighting the candles of progress. Be a Muslim who is professional in your field, so that Islam is seen as noble, beautiful, and soothing
