1. Preface
Have you ever wondered why a mother can still smile despite exhaustion caring for her child, or why a warrior remains steadfast even when wounded? Modern science reveals a beautiful secret: our brain is not merely a thinking center, but also a storehouse of mercy. Within it, Allah has embedded natural anesthetics (such as endorphins and enkephalins). When physical trial reaches its limit, the brain releases these “anesthetics” to protect the soul from collapse. Even more wondrous, there is a “gate” system (Gate Control Theory) in our nerves. This gate can shut tightly, blocking pain signals from reaching the brain, with just one master key: Psychological and Spiritual Condition
.2. Explanation
Qur’anic Evidence and Hadith The Word of Allah SWT
:ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ
“That is the decree of the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing.” (QS. Yasin: 38) The Saying of the Messenger of Allah SAW:
عَجَبًا لأَمْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِنَّ أَمْرَهُ كُلَّهُ خَيْر
“How amazing is the affair of the believer, for all his affairs are good.” (HR. Muslim)
3. Lessons and Message
Know that physical suffering is only the outer shell. If the heart is filled with contentment toward Allah, then the pain will be “filtered” by faith before it touches consciousness. Do not focus on the size of the wound, but focus on the greatness of the Healer. Inner happiness is a real biological shield.Let us turn to the Battle of Mu’tah. Look at Ja‘far ibn Abi Talib. When his right hand was severed, he did not collapse in agony. He took up the banner of Islam with his left hand. When his left hand was also severed, he clasped the banner tightly with what remained of his arms until he was martyred. Medically, that is impossible without overwhelming pain. But where was the pain? At that moment, the “gate” in his spinal cord had been shut tight by overflowing love for Allah. His brain had been flooded with heavenly tranquility before his feet even set foot in Paradise.
Faith is like a “Firefighter’s Heat-Resistant Suit.” Flames (trials and pain) may lick around him, yet because he wears the protective suit (contentment and dhikr), the heat of the fire does not burn his skin. The world around him blazes, but inside he remains cool.Sometimes we’re funny. A tiny mosquito bite, and our complaint reaches social media as if the
world is ending. We rush to the pharmacy for chemical anesthetics, even though Allah has given us a “free anesthetic factory” inside our heads. Just “install” the apps of patience and gratitude, and the dosage automatically increases. If we still feel heartache over a neighbor’s words, maybe it’s a sign that our nerve “gate” is rusty from lack of istighfar lubricant.
4. Conclusion
Our brain is living proof that Allah never burdens a servant beyond his capacity. If today you feel pain—whether physical or emotional—draw near to Him. Let contentment close the gate to your suffering, and let His mercy be the anesthetic for a weary soul.
