1. Introduction
Beloved, God-conscious friends, drug abuse is not merely an issue of delinquency, but a “hijacking” of the human brain system. Scientifically, narcotic substances manipulate dopamine release to an extreme degree, damaging the prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for logic, morality, and decision-making. As a result, a person loses control over himself. A soul that should be serene and free is slowly imprisoned by compulsive desires that destroy reason. Islam came to preserve the intellect (Hifzhul ‘Aql), because without a sound mind, a human being loses the essence of his humanity
2. Explanation
Qur’anic and Hadith Evidence
A. Qur’anic Verse (Prohibition of self-destruction):
وَلَا تُلْقُوْا بِاَيْدِيْكُمْ اِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ
“And do not throw yourselves into destruction.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 195)
B. The Saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (Prohibition of all that is harmful):
نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ كُلِّ مُسْكِرٍ وَمُفَتِّرٍ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited everything that intoxicates and everything that weakens—harms the mind and body. (HR. Abu Daud)
3. Lessons and Message
True freedom does not mean being free to try everything, especially what destroys you. Our dignity is far more valuable than a fleeting false pleasure. Remember, drugs not only steal your future, but they will force you to trade the most precious things in your life—your religion, your honor, and your family—just for one destructive dose. Do not let yourself become a slave to an inanimate substance that you buy with your life. Have we ever imagined a young man once known for his politeness and devotion, yet who fell into this black hole? When withdrawal struck, his body was shattered, his dignity collapsed. To get that unlawful substance, he was willing to sell his mother’s prayer rug, and even dared to steal the last possessions of his sick father. Or a girl who was once graceful and honorable, but because of addiction, she lost her sanity and was willing to sell her dignity just for a single pill. At the end of their journey, they weep in a prison cell or rehabilitation center, realizing that one second of false pleasure has robbed them of their entire human dignity. Human life is like a ship sailing toward the eternal harbor—Paradise. The intellect is its captain, and religion is its compass. Drugs are like a hole you dig yourself in the bottom of your ship. You may feel happy because you can play with water inside the ship, but without realizing it, your ship is sinking. When the ship goes down, its captain can no longer think, and its compass is swallowed by the waves. Do not destroy your ship just because you are curious about “water” that is poisonous. We can be funny sometimes. We are very meticulous when buying a phone—we check the battery, the screen, making sure there isn’t a single scratch. But when someone offers a “forbidden substance” that clearly destroys our brain’s “operating system,” we actually want to try it. We say, “Ah, just once, to be seen as cool.” Cool how? What’s cool about staggering when you walk, slurring when you speak, and having bloodshot eyes like you’ve just seen a ghost? Remember, a broken phone can be repaired or replaced, but if your brain and faith have “crashed” because of drugs, the spare parts aren’t sold in any market!
4. Conclusion
Dear brothers and sisters, drug abuse is a real enemy of civilization. Let us protect our generation, our homes, and our souls. Return to Allah, for only in obedience is there true tranquility—without any chemical substances. Let us say no to drugs, and say yes to a radiant future
